In its simplest form, an agility course consists of a set of standard obstacles, laid out by a judge in a design of its own choosing on a roughly 100 by 100 foot area, with numbers indicating the order in which the dog must complete the obstacles. Coruses are complicated enough that a dog can not complete them correctly without human direction. In competition, the handler must assess the course, decide on handling strategies and direct the dog through the course with precision and speed. Obstacles consist of an A-Frame, a dogwalk, a teeter, a tunnel, a collapsed tunnel, jumps of all kinds, a table and weave poles. Handler and dog work towards getting different titles and there are even categories for dogs with different builds to compete in where they can jump lower jumps. |
